About Us
The Village Parents was started in 2009 by two moms who wanted to help Charles Village families feel more closely connected, enjoy the benefits of living in a close-knit urban community, and become more invested in our neighborhood public schools, Barclay and Margaret Brent. The conversation began when they met at a local park and continued with an initial meeting of about 15 parents a few weeks later, when the group was officially launched. Since then, Village Parents has begun a neighborhood-wide list serve currently serving over 300 families; we've organized lots of social events and playgroups; we've hosted several urban education discussion series featuring experts and visionaries in the field; and we've partnered with other local organizations and institutions, including Johns Hopkins, to strengthen the neighborhood. We've also helped families to get more acquainted with the schools through tours, positive marketing efforts, and old-fashioned conversations in the park. We've seen steadily increasing enrollment in the schools among our member families since 2011, and we hope that trend will continue in years to come as more families choose to move to and stay in Charles Village. Please join our efforts to make this neighborhood a welcoming place for families.
